Case History / Siren Wisconsin / Page 1
The Siren, Wisconsin tornado actually first touched down in Braham, MN about 7:30pm. There are reports of a touchdown
in Pine County a few minutes later. Once it came down again in Wisconsin, it was on the grown for
a long time
(fascinating LandSat images showing the damage from space!), beginning in Grantsburg, then the towns of Alpha, Falun,
and eventually Siren around 820 where it did considerable damage killing three people. Although, there were warnings
out on this storm from 7:30 on, the sirens in Siren were struck by lightning earlier this year and were scheduled for
repair the following week. The Sheriff was going door to door attempting to warn people.
Reflectivity loop
Note a brief hook appears near Braham, then a obvious hook develops as it crosses the Wisconsin border. The cell
appears the start as a Classic Super Cell and then evolve into an HP.
Here are blow ups of a few of the individual reflectivity images near Braham, Grantsburg, and Siren.
Velocity Loop
Note the tight couplet of contrasting colors near Braham. It broadens and then becomes larger and tighter as it crosses into Wisconsin.
Here are some blow ups of velocity images in Braham, Grantsburg, and Siren.
